Notification of city council meeting schedule for 2018-19 city budget

Grand Island, Neb.—City Administrator Marlan Ferguson and Interim Finance Director William Clingman announce the city council meeting and budget session schedule for the 2018-19 budget. 

All sessions and meetings except for the budget work sessions on July 17 and Aug. 7 will be held in the city council chambers, 100 E. First St., and will begin at 7 p.m. The budget work sessions on July 17 and Aug. 7 will be held at 6 p.m. in the city council chambers. Residents are welcome to provide input on agenda topics at all meetings and sessions.

All meetings will be aired live on Grand Island Television (GITV) on Spectrum channel 187 and digital over-the-air 50.1. The City of Grand Island also offers a live GITV programming stream that can be accessed with computer and mobile devices at  

The follow is a list of budget meeting/session and important dates:

June 12                        Consider resolution for Fiscal Year 2019 General Fund budget guideline:  2018 Base plus 2 percent maximum increase per department.

June 26                        Consider resolution for half-cent sales tax increase to be used for infrastructure for ballot language for November 13, 2018, General Election and approval of Interlocal Agreement for same.

July 17 (6 p.m.)            Study session for General Fund revenue and expense discussion, General Fund capital/equipment requests, along with 400 Fund discussion.

July 24                          Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) budget approved and set Board of Equalization meeting set.

August 7 (6 p.m.)         Study session for any outstanding items and review of Enterprise Funds.

August 14                     Agenda item for cleanup of outstanding General Fund items and review of Enterprise Funds.

August 20                     Hall County certifies taxable property valuation.

August 21                     Approval of fee schedule.

August 28                     Special meeting to open the public hearing for the budget and will remain open until the meeting on Sept. 11.

September 11              Continue public hearing for budget, approval of budget and salary ordinance.

September 20              Deadline for submittal to Nebraska Department of Revenue.

October 1                      2019 Fiscal Year begins.
