  • Media Contact and City Spokesperson - The Public Information Office works closely with local, regional, and in some cases national media, to ensure that media entities meet their deadlines with accurate, open, and timely communication from the City of Grand Island. Responsibilities include press releases, public service announcements, media pitches, arranging interviews for City personnel, and serving as a spokesperson on behalf of the City. In an effort to maintain productive working relationships between the City of Grand Island and the local media a “Quarterly City Update for the Media” event has been established since September of 2006.

  • Provide Public Information to the Citizens of Grand Island - The Public Information Office strives to provide the citizens of Grand Island with current, accurate, and truthful information regarding the workings of the City. The Public Information Office answers questions from the citizens regarding city government and the community in general, listens to the concerns or challenges of citizens in hopes of finding the right person or organization to help them, and takes both complimentary and complaint calls on City related matters.

  • Public Relations and Marketing Tools - The Public Information Office is responsible for the creation of public relations and marketing pieces that are used for both external and internal audiences. Items include brochures, posters, invitations, marketing plans and campaigns, the City Line monthly employee newsletter, and the monthly City Administrator Report.
All of these communication tools are used to create a greater understanding of City services, for promotional efforts of Grand Island to out-of-town visitors, and most importantly to foster better communication between the City and the general public, potential residents, and City employees.

  • Event Planning and Promotion - The Public Information Office also leads the efforts of the planning, promoting, and coordination of City celebration or recognition events. The mission the CYC is to serve as a unified voice for the youth of our community. It is accomplished by participating in community service projects, partnering with other organizations and business on events, and sponsoring CYC events. Event highlights from 2006-07 include the “Youth in the Spotlight” Talent Contest, Family Day in the Park, Join Hands Day, Christmas caroling to assisted living facilities, trash pick up, and participating in the Red Cross Chili Cook-off.
