Steve Paustian attended the University of Idaho where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation Management. He began his employment with the City of Grand Island in 1979 as the Recreation Superintendent. In 1981, he assumed his present position as Parks and Recreation Director. He is a member of the National Parks and Recreation Association, the Nebraska Turfgrass Foundation, World Water Park Association, past president of the Nebraska Trails Council, and past president of the Grand Island YMCA. |

The Parks and Recreation department is subdivided into the Park Maintenance Division, which is responsible for maintenance and up keep of city parks, the Cemetery Division, which is responsible for maintaining the city cemetery, the Recreation Division, which is responsible for the organization of city sport leagues and city sponsored athletic events, the Golf Division, and the Aquatics Division, which is responsible for city pools and Island Oasis Water Park. |
