Grand Island City Council approved ordinance No. 9646 on August 29, 2017, this ordinance imposes a motor vehicle fee (commonly known as the Wheel Tax) motor vehicle registrations within the city limits effective November 1, 2017. On January 9, 2018 the Grand Island City Council approved ordinance No. 9672 with multiple changes, but primarily how 5 ton commercial vehicles are handled. If you have a commercial vehicle of 5 tons combined weight or less and paid the amount of $52.50 between November 1, 2017 and February 28, 2018 you are eligible for a $30.00 refund.

Refund Instructions:

Refunds will be provide via a check mailed to the address listed on your registration by bringing the form below and the following items to City Hall:

1. Current registration which states the amount paid for the wheel tax, original document will be required

2. State issued form of photo identification for individuals requesting a refund

3. A completed form W-9 for businesses requesting a refund
