Engineered plans are required to be submitted to the Utilities Department prior to installation of public or private lines designed to supply fire hydrants or water based suppression systems. Along with the guidelines found in the link below, all water services supplying water based suppression systems must be flowed at a rate of 10 ft/sec. The chart below can be used to determine the amount of water needed to flow to reach the desired velocity in piping. This flow "test" must be witnessed by the Grand Island Fire Department. The state certificate document is required to be completed, signed and submitted to the Grand Island Fire Department.
