Traffic Accidents available online via PoliceReports.US

In an effort to continue providing a higher level of customer service, the Grand Island Police Department provides citizens and insurance companies the ability to obtain motor vehicle accident reports investigated by the Grand Island Police Department through the convenience of a user friendly internet site available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Accident reports are normally available within 2 days of the accident. To search for an accident report, users enter one or more of the following required pieces of information:

  • Police Report Number
  • Date of Accident
  • The name of a driver or property owner
  • Intersection of accident

Accident reports will still be available at the Grand Island Police Department in the Records Department.

Do you need to fill out a State of Nebraska Driver's Motor Vehicle Accident Report?

The Driver’s Motor Vehicle Accident Report (DR41) is now available in two formats. Please select the one you need, and right click on it to download it.

NOTE: Please use the Fill In versions below. This eliminates the possibility of errors in transcribing because of problems in reading your handwriting.  IMPORTANT...When printing this report, please make sure the printed copy you submit includes the signature lines.

When do I have to file an accident report? If someone is injured or killed, or someone has over $1000 in damage then all drivers involved are required to file a Driver’s Motor Vehicle Accident Report with the State of Nebraska Office within 10 days of the accident.

Who is required to file a Driver’s Motor Vehicle Accident Report? All drivers involved in an accident in which someone is injured or killed, or someone has damage over $1000 are required to file a Driver’s Motor Vehicle Accident Report, no matter who is at fault, within 10 days of the occurrence.

Where do I get a Driver’s Motor Vehicle Accident Report? You can get a Driver’s Motor Vehicle Accident Report from: the officer that investigated your accident, the police or sheriff’s department, your insurance agent, or by calling (402) 479-4645.

How do I get a copy of the investigating officer’s report? The officer’s report is public information. You can follow the instructions above to get accident reports online or contact the GIPD Records Department.

         
Can I get a copy of the other driver’s report?
     No. All driver’s reports are confidential by law.


Can the Highway Safety Section suspend a person’s driver’s license because of an accident?
     Only the Department of Motor Vehicles can suspend a person’s driver’s license.
