The Moores Creek Drainage Extension Project would extend drainage ditches in the southwestern portion of the City to serve agriculture areas, development areas and areas associated with the proposed US Highway 30 realignment project. The City of Grand Island is planning future US Highway 30 drainage crossings in order to get the crossing construction with the proposed new highway alignment.
The Central Platte Natural Resource District completed a Moores Creek Master Plans for western Grand Island in 1975. This project generally follows the recommendation from the 1975 study.
The City of Grand Island has completed concepts and the feasibility of the proposed drainage extension. The City of Grand Island is currently in the right-of-way design phase. Right-of-way acquisition is anticipated to occur in 2018-19.
Due to permitting issues with US Highway 30 realignment project, construction of the Moores Creek Drainage Extension will not occur prior to highway realignment.
