Residents of Grand Island:

People are asking me for locations in the city where coronavirus may be present.  On March 28, 2020, the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services determined that we have confirmed cases of community spread of coronavirus in the city.  This means that we must assume that coronavirus is everywhere.  Please take extra precautions using this assumption.   Please keep at least 6 feet of space between you and other people, wash your hands regularly, and do not touch your face.

Mayor Roger G. Steele

The City of Grand Island along with Grand Island Area Clean Community System in an effort to keep Grand Island beautiful.  This includes litter pickup from our roadways and/or detention cells.  The citizen volunteer or group is asked to maintain the area at least twice per year, but we won't mind if cleaned more frequently!

Who qualifies to adopt?

Local service clubs, youth organizations, church congregations, special-interest groups, schools, families and friends are welcome and encouraged to adopt.

May we choose which segment of roadway or detention cell we want to adopt?

Yes!  Groups are encouraged to select an area near their homes, schools or meeting places.  Requesting a certain area may be granted if possible, however cannot be guaranteed.

How often do we have to clean it?

There is a minimum two time per year clean up.  Once in the Spring and during City-wide Clean-up.

Will we get paid?

Based on grant funding some groups may qualify for payment of $50/mile that includes both sides of the roadway or $10 per acre.

How do we get started?

By either contacting the Public Works Department (308) 385-5455 or Grand Island Area Clean Community System (308) 385-5095.
