*  Message from the Mayor  *

Residents of Grand Island:

People are asking me for locations in the city where coronavirus may be present.  On March 28, 2020, the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services determined that we have confirmed cases of community spread of coronavirus in the city.  This means that we must assume that coronavirus is everywhere.  Please take extra precautions using this assumption.   Please keep at least 6 feet of space between you and other people, wash your hands regularly, and do not touch your face.

Mark Stelk

Mark StelkYear Elected to Office and Number of Terms Served:
Mark Stelk was appointed to office by Mayor Jay Vavricek in 2014 and will hold the Ward 2 position for three years.

Education and Background:
Stelk graduated from the University of Nebraska--Lincoln with a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration.

Place of Employment:
Stelk is the owner of General Collection Company.

Community Activities and Organizations Currently Involved In:
Stelk is involved in a variety of community organizations including the Downtown Business Improvement District Board, Sunrise Rotary, CASA, Teammates, Third City Community Clinic, St. Francis Foundation, and the Goodwill Foundation.  Stelk is also a past board member of the Grand Island Area Chamber of Commerce and the Heartland United Way.

Reason for Running for Public Office:
Stelk decided to become involved in city government in order to serve the people of Grand Island.

Family Members:
Stelk is married to Wendy and they have three grown children, Scott, Kim, and Jennifer, and several grandchildren.
