Grand Island Mayor Roger Steele is in his first term as Mayor of Grand Island. Roger was first elected to the Grand Island City Council in 2014 and was elected Mayor in 2018.
Roger grew up in Nebraska with a family background in agriculture.
Roger attended Wayne State College and received a degree in Pre-Law Studies. He then attended Creighton University where he was awarded a Juris Doctorate in 1984. Following graduation, Roger moved to Grand Island and became a trial attorney and has tried over 100 jury trials.
Roger has been married to Liana Steele for 33 years. He and Liana have two daughters, Laura and Leslie. Liana is an attorney and a pharmacist and Roger and Liana practice law at Steele Law Office in Grand Island. Laura is the Assistant Director for a public health department and Leslie is a Professional Civil Engineer for the Air Force. Both Roger and Liana have volunteered on many Grand Island and state non-profit boards and view community service as a great way to get involved in the community.
Mayor Steele’s priorities are maintaining the city of Grand Island’s financial stability, job creation and increasing the Grand Island economic engine.
Mayor Steele believes in open, transparent and accountable government and is deeply honored to hold this position.
