Vaping

Grand Island, Neb. — On the morning of Tuesday, January 6, the Grand Island Police Department conducted compliance checks at five randomly selected businesses to ensure adherence to Nebraska state law regarding the sale of tobacco and vape devices to minors.

The compliance checks were conducted under Nebraska State Statute 28-1419, which prohibits the sale of vape devices to individuals under the age of 21. Of the five businesses inspected, four were found to be in compliance with state law. One business, VIP Smoke Shop, was cited for the sale of a vape device to a minor.

The businesses selected for the compliance checks were:

  • 3rd Street Trees, 350 N. Broadwell Ave.

  • VIP Smoke Shop, 3212 S. Locust St.

  • Smokers Island, 309 S. Locust St.

  • Smokaha Tobacco, 2250 N. Webb Rd., Suite D

  • Carpe Diem, 2402 N. Broadwell Ave.

The Grand Island Police Department conducts these checks periodically to help ensure businesses are following state law and to reduce youth access to tobacco and vaping products. Compliance checks remain an important part of ongoing efforts to protect public health and safety throughout Grand Island.
