Grand Island, Neb. -- At the April 15 City Council meeting, the hard work and dedication of Grand Island Utilities Department (GIUD) lineworkers and dispatchers took center stage. During the evening’s study session, Mayor Roger Steele and members of the City Council paused official business to recognize the teams who helped keep the city powered through two late-winter storms.
The storms, which rolled through Grand Island in rapid succession, brought heavy winds, ice, and difficult conditions that put extra strain on the city’s power infrastructure. Despite the challenges, GIUD crews worked around the clock to respond to outages, repair damage, and maintain service across the city. Their behind-the-scenes efforts ensured that disruptions were minimal and safety remained a top priority.
The applause inside City Hall served as a public thank you to those who often do their jobs in the worst of conditions—quietly, reliably and with the entire community in mind.
