Grand Island, Neb. -- The Grand Island Utilities Department joined families and community partners at CHI Health St. Francis on May 22 for the annual Summer Safety Spectacular—a fun, hands-on event focused on keeping kids safe during the summer months.

GIUD’s lineworkers were on site with their equipment and gear, giving kids an up-close look at the tools they use and the work they do every day. From trying on hard hats to exploring utility trucks, children got a chance to experience what it’s like to be a lineworker—sparking more than a few dreams of future careers in the field.

The event brought together a variety of safety demonstrations, community resources, and interactive activities designed to help families enjoy summer while staying safe. GIUD’s participation not only highlighted electrical safety but also gave the public a chance to connect with the people who help keep the city powered year-round.
