Grand Island, Neb. ā The Grand Island Police Department participated in the national Click It or Ticket High Visibility Mobilization from May 15 through May 31, thanks to grant funding provided by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Office of Highway Safety.
The enforcement effort focused on increasing seat belt usage and promoting safer driving habits through high-visibility traffic enforcement. During the campaign, 12 officers worked selective overtime patrols targeting seat belt violations and other traffic safety concerns throughout the community.
In total, officers conducted 955 traffic stops and issued 366 citations while providing 619 warnings for various traffic violations. Officers also made 237 arrests related to a variety of offenses encountered during enforcement activities. As part of the campaign's seat belt enforcement focus, officers issued an additional 26 seat belt citations and two child restraint citations. The effort also resulted in the arrest of 23 impaired drivers, including 19 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol and four arrests for driving under the influence of drugs.
The Click It or Ticket campaign is a nationwide initiative designed to increase seat belt use and reduce serious injuries and fatalities resulting from traffic crashes. The Grand Island Police Department encourages all vehicle occupants to buckle up every trip, every time.
