Grand Island, Neb. — The Grand Island Police Department is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Sunday morning south of the intersection of Shady Bend Road and Seedling Mile Road.

Officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 11:37 a.m. and determined the crash involved a single black Aprilia motorcycle. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the motorcycle, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary information gathered from witnesses and evidence at the scene indicates the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Shady Bend Road at a speed greater than the posted limit when the driver lost control and left the roadway on the east side. The motorcycle struck a street sign before continuing northbound through the ditch, resulting in the driver being ejected.

The driver has been identified as 19-year-old Ezekiel D. Gross of Grand Island. Next-of-kin have been notified.

The Grand Island Police Department is led the investigation and was assisted by the Grand Island Fire Department and the Hall County Attorney’s Office. Shady Bend Road was closed for approximately 90 minutes while emergency personnel conducted their on-scene investigation.
