Grand Island, Neb. ā The Grand Island Public Library invites the community to experience "Celebrating the Art of Ethel Weir," the latest exhibit featured in the Library's Art Alcove. The collection will be on display through August 31 and highlights a selection of Weir's oil paintings featuring tranquil landscapes and vibrant floral scenes inspired by the natural beauty of the Midwest.
A longtime resident of Hastings, Weir was raised in Sheldon, Iowa, where she graduated from Sheldon High School before eventually making Hastings her home. During her retirement, she dedicated her time to teaching art and creating paintings that reflected her appreciation for nature and rural landscapes.
Weir passed away on June 5, 2023, in Aurora, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and artistic expression. This collection was generously gifted to a Grand Island Public Library staff member, who is honored to share Weir's work with the community through this special exhibit. Community members are encouraged to visit the Art Alcove throughout August to enjoy the exhibit during regular library hours.
