Grand Island, Neb. ā The Grand Island Police Department has been awarded up to $20,000 in grant funding to conduct additional impaired driving and speeding enforcement during the 2026 Nebraska State Fair.
The enforcement effort will take place from August 28 through September 7, coinciding with the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island. Funding will cover overtime expenses for officers conducting additional traffic enforcement during the 11-day period.
The grant is intended to support efforts to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes by increasing enforcement focused on impaired driving, speeding and other traffic violations. With increased traffic expected in and around Grand Island during the State Fair, GIPD officers will conduct high-visibility patrols aimed at identifying dangerous driving behaviors and helping keep roadways safe for residents and visitors.
Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, buckle up, avoid distractions and always designate a sober driver or arrange for a safe ride if consuming alcohol. The Grand Island Police Department encourages everyone attending the Nebraska State Fair to plan ahead, drive responsibly and help ensure a safe Fair for the entire community.
