After 25 years at GIFD, we give one final tip of the cap to Captain Scott Piercy. Today, we held a retirement reception for him at Fire Station #4 in front of friends and family as well as fellow firefighters, captains and chiefs.
Capt. Piercy said he's excited for an upcoming trip to Alaska! Enjoy retirement and thank you for your service!

City and county officials came together today to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War and the Fall of Saigon.
A heartfelt presentation on the front steps of the Hall County Courthouse featured speeches from Grand Island Mayor Roger Steele, Hall County Hero Flight Board Member Dan Naranjo, Vietnam Veteran Jim Seim and much more.

We are teaming up with the Grand Island Tree Board and the Dodge School “Park Rangers” (3rd-5th Graders) to celebrate Arbor Day!
On Friday, April 25 at 11 a.m., we will be hosting a tree planting ceremony at Pier Park across from Dodge School near the playground. We will be planting a Sienna Maple tree, which was donated by Curtis and Leslie Probasco from Uprooted Nursery.

What an honor it was today for Mayor Roger Steele to thank World War II veteran Bob Hinrichs for his years of service.
In partnership with Governor Jim Pillen and the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs, Mayor Steele presented Bob with a certificate and a commemorative medal celebrating the 80-year anniversary of the end of World War II.

What a memorable and profound day for us here at the city. We were able to welcome in some of the brightest student minds from around the world as the UNL Fulbright Scholar Program visited Grand Island.
They met with Mayor Steele and received tours of the Stuhr Museum, City of Grand Island - Police Department and City of Grand Island - Fire Department before hosting a multicultural showcase at the City of Grand Island - Public Library.
